BEIJING (Reuters) - Taiwan president-elect Tsai Ing-wen on Saturday called for freedom of navigation in the disputed South China Sea and for a peaceful resolution of the dispute.

She also said Taiwan will continue to strengthen the island's ties with Japan.

路透社北京报道—— 台湾新当选总统蔡英文星期六呼吁在有争议的南中国海实行航行自由，各方和平解决争议。

他同时宣称台湾将加强日台之间的关系。

It is the Republic of China government in Taiwan that claims almost all the disputed South China Sea (based on the 11 dash line since 1947). The successor PR China starting in 1949 then mirrors the claim, but gave up some to Vietnam during the Vietnam War, leading to a slightly different claim (i.e., the 9 dash line). PRC is now taking all the blames for the South China Sea disputes, and Taiwan is portrayed like one of the smaller "victims" along with Philippines and Vietnam in the Western media, including this one.
Tsai has been ambiguous all the time. I hope someone from Taiwan can come forward to clarify what it really means to have freedom of navigation and a peaceful resolution of the dispute. That that means that Taiwan now officially gives up the 11 dash line and will only claim Taiping Island and not the rest of South China Sea? Does it mean that American and Japanese war planes can freely fly over Taiping Island?

There is allot of culture that Japan has left in Taiwan from it's occupation during pre World War 2, which was for the better for Taiwan, Japan did not leave an impression on the people of Taiwan as a occupier or tyrant as China would be, so closer ties to Japan would help Taiwan's people and Democracy, even though I am 71 years old I would still help Taiwan to fight off the Chinese even though I would know I would lose my life, it would be worth it for my family there and friends.
