Pictures of overweight squirrels are being shared on Twitter as the animals are thought to have piled on weight due to an abundance of food in the mild winter. Fat squirrels have been spotted in Wales (left and top right), Boston, New York, Texas (bottom right) and Wisconsin. Experts say while squirrels are normally larger at this time of year due to thicker fur and building up fat reserves for the winter, they appear to have enjoyed more food than normal.
